Start Dream Big Timeline

Spring, 2017: ​Start Dream Big is founded by Jeferson and Suzanne Tobias. Start Dream Big was able to hold it’s first Robotics class with 14 students in May of 2017. Through various partnerships and through donations, Start Dream Big begun it’s work in the community; New Season Church in Sacramento California became our host location, Intel lent 14 laptops to be used in class, and our first 7 robot kits were donated by Bradford Technologies.

Fall, 2017: ​Start Dream Big held their second Robotics Class at New Season and established a partnership with Title 1 Charter School, Bowling Green, in Sacramento CA., that brought students from their school into the program. Start Dream Big also had it’s first exposure to the public at the Rocklin Mini Maker Faire, bringing awareness to the importance of STEM education, specially for under served communities in the Sacramento Area.

​​Spring, 2018: Start Dream Big attended various events in the community, provided workshops to Charter School Imagine Community Academy and Organization Shoulder to Shoulder, and held it’s third Robotics Class at New Season. A great partnership began with the Sacramento Sheriff’s Activities League, a unit within the Sacramento Sheriff’s. They attended some of our classes and sponsored class T-shirts, also providing a BBQ’S for our robotics graduation event.

Summer, 2018: The City of Sacramento, has it’s second RAILS Grant that committed up to $1M for local organizations/companies/entrepreneurs to drive acceleration, innovation & leadership within Sacramento through startup programs. Start Dream Big is one of 14 organizations selected for the grant. Start Dream Big brought students to Intel’s Kid to Work day and Sacramento River Cats Baseball game. A robotics Summer Program was provided to students of Improve Your Tomorrow.

Fall 2018: Start Dream Big continues to expand; creating and developing more activities. Students helped host our booth at the Rocklin Mini Maker Faire, attended an event at the Sacramento Republic Soccer Playoffs. We had our fourth Robotics Class at New Season and Class at Boys and Girls Club, with both classes graduating together.

Spring, 2019 : Start Dream Big introduces a level 2 robotics class module,  for students who have completed level 1 and want to continue learning more. Start Dream Big attend several community events such as the Sacramento Kings basketball Tech Night, Fruitridge Community Collaborative and Hack the Park Festival. Through the RAILS grant, Start Dream Big purchased its first vehicle becoming a mobile coding/robotics class in the community that is now able to transport equipment and bring STEM to under served areas within the community.

Summer, 2019 : Start Dream Big is officially certified under Internal Revenue Code 501(c)(3) as a non-profit organization. Through our graduation events students and parents were introduced to different programs and High School Robotics Clubs such as; Eagle Force 2073, Citrus Circuits Davis and SES Robotics Team, Cyber Security with Yellow Circle and Civil Air Patrol an official civilian auxiliary of the United States Air Force.
